Next Optimise combines dynamic electricity pricing with battery automation. It is designed for households comparing a supplier-managed solar and storage tariff with independent optimisation.
Beta · eligibility appliesE.ON Next describes SmartShift as a 24-hour plan that is recalculated using wholesale prices, solar forecasts and household use. The product is in beta and offers automatic or manual operation. For the first 1,000 eligible customers, E.ON advertises a 12-month early-bird booster: 3p/kWh off imports from 00:00–06:00 and an extra 3p/kWh on exports from 16:00–19:00. The offer can be amended or suspended, so confirm it before relying on the uplift.
The current provider page lists GivEnergy; Fox ESS H1-G2, KH and H3 Smart ranges; Alpha inverters beginning AL; Sigenergy with a Sigen Gateway or Sensor; and Tesla Powerwall 2 and 3. Fox H1-G1 is excluded. Confirm the exact installation during enrolment.
E.ON says SmartShift does not automatically export below 25% state of charge and respects a higher manufacturer reserve. Align reserve settings across apps and ask how the battery is expected to supply the home below that export threshold.
Review how much energy you can move between periods and what happens on days with little solar. Compare the full rate calculation and standing charge, rather than assuming wholesale-linked pricing always wins. Request clear instructions for suspending automation and leaving the beta.
